Dr. Perrone is senior researcher at the Institute of Sciences of Food Production of National Research Council in Bari, Italy CNR-ISPA. In 2014 he got the habilitation for Associate Professor in Microbiology (07/F2) and Plant Pathology (07/D1). In 2018 he got the habilitation as Full Professor in Plant Pathology (07/D1). He is scientific Responsible and Curator of the International Collection of Microorganisms of Agro-Food Interest - ITEM since 2015. Dr. Perrone is member of the International Commission on Food Mycology (ICFM), secretary of the International Commission on Penicillium and Aspergillus (ICPA), and treasurer of International Society for Mycotoxicology. He is in the editorial board of Studies in Mycology, Frontiers in Microbiology, Microorganisms, and (co-)authored >130 papers in peer-reviewed journals. His main field of research are morphology, biology, ecology, eco-physiology, taxonomy and phylogenetics of toxigenic fungal species, mainly Aspergillus and Penicillium species. He is also expert in culture collection and preservation of filamentous fungi, food mycology and fungal starters in food fermentations, microbiology, molecular biology, PCR methods, biological assays. He was involved in more than 20 ministerial and European research projects.
