markusPD Dr. Markus Schmidt-Heydt, head of laboratory, research group leader “Human-pathogenic and Mycotoxin-producing Fungi” at the Federal Research Center for Nutrition and Food, Max Rubner-Institut, Karlsruhe (MRI), Germany.

He graduated in Biology (Genetics, Organic Chemistry, Microbiology) and has a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Karlsruhe (KIT), Germany. He has habilitated in Molecular Biology and Microbiology (Venia Legendi, PD). He is lecturer in Cellular and Medical Microbiology at the University of Karlsruhe (KIT).

Member Association for General and Applied Microbiology (VAAM), since 2005; Member Society for Mycotoxin Research, since 2005; Member Faculty and Examination Council of the university Karlsruhe, since 2018 (KIT); Member Karlsruhe Natural Science Association, since 2018. Member International Mycotox Society (ISM), since 2022.

His major research areas are: Fungi and mycotoxins in foods; Genetic regulation of mycotoxin biosynthesis; Fungal cellular signaling pathways; Fungus-plant-interaction, Biodiversity and Physiology of pathogenic and toxigenic fungi in field and foods, Fungal genome analyses.
